Baglio del Mare is a classic Sicilian baglio — a fortified farm built around a courtyard — ten minutes from the honey-coloured baroque of Noto and eight from the beaches of the Vendicari nature reserve.
The courtyard holds the pool, framed by citrus trees and jasmine; the old granary is now a twelve-seat dining hall with a professional kitchen where our chef cooks Sicilian dinners on request. Five bedrooms are spread between the main house and two garden suites, so three generations can travel together without living on top of each other.
Syracuse and Ortigia are forty minutes away, Modica’s chocolate an hour. September, when the sea is warm and the light goes gold, is the month we recommend most.
